I hope everyone has enjoyed their summer! I can’t believe that it has gone by so fast. I spent my summer enjoying some family time and being a learner. I have very little time during the school year to be a learner and I love my extra time in the summer to read tech blogs, participate in ed chats on Twitter, and my new favorite: online ed tech summits. I absolutely loved Ed Camp Global! It was the most amazing 24 hours of PD. I learned more in 24 hours then I have in 6+ required trainings. I’m very excited to participate in Ed Camp Global Classrooms coming in January 2016. You can check it out here.
Now that I only have two weeks left until we go back to school, it’s time to start focusing on this upcoming school year. One of the things that I’m most excited to work on this year is collaborating with teachers from around the world to create interactive eBooks using Book Creator. During Ed Camp Global I was able to connect with other educators across the world who are interested in collaborating with my class this year. We then emailed back and forth to figure out the dates and subjects that we will be working on. One of our first projects will be a book about communities where each classroom will create a chapter in the book about their own community including pictures from the area and audio of our native language. We will then email the parts on the book to one person and that person will be able to combine the parts into chapters of one book. I am thrilled to introduce my students to a more global way of learning. Not only will they learn more about their own community, but they will be learning about other communities from students their age who actually live there and not an outdated book!! The teacher inside me is seriously jumping with joy!!
I cannot begin to describe how much I love the Book Creator app!! It is by far my most favorite creation app to use in the classroom. It has so many uses and can span the curriculum. The best part? My students love it too!
In the future I will be posting about using Book Creator to make interactive reading and math journals on the iPad. If you would like to see how to use Book Creator you can access my Keynote slides here. You can also visit the Book Creator website here. Or follow them on Twitter @BookCreatorApp.
